Traveling gets expensive, but these easy ways to entertain kids definitely aren’t! Here are our 8 favorite things to keep kids occupied while traveling.

1. Make an airport scavenger hunt

This is perfect to do while you’re waiting for your plane! If you don’t want to make one, you can purchase this one from Bluebirds and Blackberries!

2. Have them write a travel journal

We each have a Moleskine notebook for our travel journals. They are ruled and easy to write in, and they usually have enough room for more than one trip. These are great for writing in while on the plane or while waiting at a restaurant, etc.

3. Play Word Games

All you need for this is your imagination! Some of our favorite games like this are I Spy and Find the Alphabet (you try to find something that starts with each letter of the alphabet).

4. Make a Craft Pack

Make a small craft pack for each kid that includes coloring books or sticker books (or both!), a small toy, puzzles or jokes, and a sketchbook and pencils or crayons. These will provide plenty of entertainment while on a plane, waiting in the airport, or pretty much any time you are waiting! If you can only bring one of the above things, bring the paper and pencils. There are so many things you can do with these!

5. Listen to an Audiobook/Music

Listening to an audiobook or music can make time fly!

6. Play Card Games

Short card games are fun to play while waiting, and they don’t take up much space. Our favorites are Uno, Crazy 8’s, and Speed. Another small game we really love are the Rory’s Story Cubes. These come in themed packs, but the ones we have are the Travel set. They have adorable pictures on them and are great for imaginative play, since you can make pretty much any story up with them.

7. Let them take photos

You can either give your kids your phone, or you can buy a small camera for them! They’ll improve their photography skills and you’ll have a unique reminder of your trip!

8. Snacks

This one is probably the most expensive one on the list as we know how pricey food can get! However, if you can purchase a few non-messy snacks and dole them out in intervals, this will keep kids entertained for a while.
